Day 01 – Arrive Chennai
Arrive Chennai by International flight. Meeting and assistance upon arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02 – Chennai – Mahabalipuram
Today morning after breakfast, proceed on a sightseeing tour of the city visiting 7th C. Kapaleshwar Temple, Fort St. George, Government Museum and Marina Beach. Later drive to Mahabalipuram (approx. 60Kms / 01 hour). Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel. Evening is free for individual activities or relaxations. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 03 – Mahabalipuram
Today, we will visit the World Heritage site at Mahabalipuram. We will explore the fragile Shore Temple, ravaged by time, but now hopefully protected by a wall. Also, we will see Arjuna’s Penance, a magnificent bas relief depicting a story from the Mahabharata. Evening is free for individual activities or relaxations. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 04 – Mahabalipuram – Kanchipuram – Chennai
Today after breakfast drive to Chennai (approx. 140Kms / 03 hour) en-route visiting Kanchipuram. Here, we will visit some of the greatest Shiva and Vishnu Temples in Tamil Nadu. Kanchipuram is also known as ‘Silk City’ and home to the finest silk saris in India.
Continue your drive to Chennai railway station to board evening train for Cochin. Overnight on aboard.
Day 05 – Cochin
Morning arrive at Cochin railway station and transfer to the hotel for check-in (Early check-in subject to availability). Cochin has been a gathering place of merchants since antiquity and is full of bustling traders. Later visit Fort Kochi which is the oldest European settlement in India (1500), and has a mixture of English, Dutch and Portuguese influence. The Mattancherry Palace was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, but extensive renovations by the Dutch some hundred years later earned it the name the Dutch Palace. It has some of the best murals in India, depicting scenes from the Ramayana and other great legends. On our tour we visit the Jew town synagogue where Kochi’s surviving Jewish community come to worship. Nearby are the interesting cantilevered Chinese Fishing nets.
In the early evening we see a performance of Kathakali, which is thought by some to be the very essence of the culture of Kerala. Its origins may have come from traditional temple rituals and from an art form known as Koodiyattam. It is the face make up which makes this dancing so unique. The dancers can take up to three hours painting their faces – the features are heavily emphasised as it is the facial expressions and coordinated eye movements which are important in the dance. The dances usually portray events from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, great Indian epics. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 06 – Cochin – Kottayam – Kumarakom
In the morning after breakfast drive to Kumarakom (approx. 70kms / 02hours) en-route visit Kottayam, a town of ancient churches predating the European missionaries by a thousand years. Thereafter, we will continue your drive to Kumarakom. Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel Kumrakom Lake resort and relax for a while amidst the comforts of your room. This is an enchanting backwater destination of Kerala. Spread over a cluster of islands on Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom is pictured as a mesh of lush tropical waterways and low-lying paddy fields. Rest of the day is free for individual activities. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 07-13 – Kumarakom (Ayurveda Treatment)
From today onwards we will arrange our self in seven days course for Ayurvedic treatment. After a consultation with the Ayurvedic doctor a various programme like Panchakarma, Rejuvenation, De-Stress package, Weight reduction, Beauty care treatment will be devised to suit your body type with yoga, meditation and therapies to soothe and nurture the body, mind and soul. Depending upon the treatment time, guests in their free moments can take leisurely on the backwaters, watch bird on the lake bordering the hotel or relax and enjoy surrounding area. Overnight at the resort.
Day 14 – Kumarakom – Cochin
Morning at leisure. Afternoon drive to Cochin (approx. 50kms / 01hour). Upon arrival, rest of the day is free to explore the local market or individual activities.
In night transfer to the Cochin airport to connect flight for onward destination.
